RESUME THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE (DOJ) RECOGNITION AND ACCREDITATION (R&A) PROGRAM: The Department of Justice (DOJ) made sudden changes and reassigned officers in the Recognition and Accreditation (R&A) program, leaving the program without proper adjudicators. As of today, the program is no longer processing decisions, impacting legal service providers, the immigrant community, and the livelihood of future and current accredited representatives.

PROTECTING SENSITIVE LOCATIONS ACT (H.R.1061/S.455): NAC advocates were asked to send messages to their Members of Congress to pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act (H.R.1061/S.455) - one of EAD 2026s focus areas. The proposed federal bill would restrict U.S. immigration enforcement actions (arrests, searches, surveillance) by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents within 1,000 feet of sensitive locations, except in exigent circumstances. These locations include schools (pre-K to university), hospitals, places of worship, courthouses, shelters, and food pantries.

THE DREAM ACT (S.3348): Invitation sent to advocates to send message urging their MOCs to support the DREAM Act and provide individuals who came to the U.S. as children the opportunity to become citizens. June 15 marked 14 years since immigrant youth and our communities won DACA protections. For more than a decade, this program has allowed hundreds of thousands of our neighbors to pursue a higher education, start businesses, buy a house, and build their entire lives in the only place they have ever called home.

GREEN CARD ADVOCACY: Part of Interfaith Immigration Coalition Green Card Press Release: Fran Eskin-Royer, Executive Director of the National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, said: The United States government has announced - without congressional action or federal rule-making - that it intends to constrain the green card application process placing lawful, legal residents at risk of being forced to leave the United States and wait an undetermined length of time for their cases to proceed. How will the federal government suddenly be able to process these cases efficiently and in a timely manner? Imagine leaving your families behind; forced into a now unfamiliar country with no means to support yourself; now at the mercy of two governments. Hows that going to work out? NAC calls on the Trump Administration to rethink and rework its plans and remember that the United States of America is the land of opportunity and welcome. BUDGET PRIORITIZING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: NAC signed on to a letter urging Congress to prioritize children and families in upcoming budget and appropriations decisions, reverse the very concerning trend of disinvestment in children and the harm done under H.R. 1, and safeguard congressional power of the purse.

ALLOCATION FOR LABOR, HEALTH, AND HUMAN SERVICE (HHS) EDUCATION SUBCOMMITTEE: NAC part of a sign-on letter to congressional appropriations leaders urging them to provide a robust FY 2027 allocation for the Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee. The letter calls on Congress to reject the Administrations proposed cuts and instead reverse recent reductions so these vital programs can meet the needs of families, communities, and local economies.

$1.5 TRILLION PENTAGON BUDGET: NAC signed a faith letter that called on Congress to reject the $1.5 Trillion Pentagon budget for Fiscal Year 2027. Our traditions are united by a shared moral conviction: the call to protect human dignity, care for the vulnerable, and pursue peace demands that our nation make wiser and more just choices with its resources. We therefore call on Congress to act with moral clarity by:
1.Rejecting the proposed $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget and opposing any increase in Pentagon funding for FY 2027.
2.Protecting funding for essential human needs programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, housing assistance, education, and other programs that support the health and dignity of millions of Americans.
3.Demanding accountability from the Department of Defense, including a credible path toward passing a full financial audit before any further budget increases are considered.
4.Investing in alternatives to militarism-such as foreign aid, diplomacy, peacebuilding, and nonviolent social movements to ensure true human national and global security.

FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ELECTIONS: NAC signed a letter urging Congress to appropriate $825 million for election administration in FY27, commensurate with the largest amount Congress sent to states during the first Trump Administration, in 2020. It also requests Congress direct a significant portion of that funding to the localities that run our elections.

As in years past, the letter makes the case for election funding as a voting rights issue. It highlights the insufficiency and inequity of current funding for elections and the increased urgency with the disappearance of other federal resources. New this year, it also details the impact of emergencies like natural disasters on election administration and voting access, and it details how adequate funding can help jurisdictions prepare and ensure voting access is not limited in the wake of a disaster.

CENSUS APPROPRIATIONS: The sign-on letter urges robust funding for the U.S. Census Bureau in the FY 2027 CJS appropriations bill, specifically $2.111 billion as recommended by The Census Project ($99.5 million more than the Administrations budget request of $2.011 billion).

AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS ASSISTANCE: The letter outlines FY27 affordable housing and homelessness assistance priorities. During a cost-of-living crisis, housing is most households largest expense. Programs that help alleviate this burden and prevent or respond to homelessness shouldnt be overlooked in a tight budget year. The letter thanks appropriators for their work last year and shares our prayer for their sustained collaboration, acting as shepherds, safeguarding the homeless and providing rental assistance to bring peace to those who suffer, as FY27 funding decisions are made.

UPDATED OPPOSITION TO SENATE BUDGET RESOLUTION: Sign-on letter in opposition to the Senate Republican Committee's recently released legislative text for the reconciliation legislation that would provide even MORE money to ICE and CBP (plus money for the White House ballroom). A vote is scheduled to be held shortly. The updated letter opposes even worse policy amendments that are contrary to our mission and values.

OPPOSITION TO ENFORCEMENT-FOCUSED RECONCILIATION BILL: Faith groups at the national, state, and local levels were invited to sign on to a letter addressed to House and Senate leadership, as well as the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committee leaders. The letter raises a central concern about the upcoming reconciliation bill: that Congress is overlooking the rising cost of living and growing gaps in social safety net programs while advancing additional immigration enforcement funding without any real reforms. Members of Congress should VOTE NO on the reconciliation bill.

FY27 CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH APPROPRIATIONS LETTER: The FY27 appropriations sign-on letter to House and Senate Appropriations leadership urges continued funding for the only two federal programs specifically dedicated to addressing mental health in very young children: the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) Grant Program and Project LAUNCH, both within Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrations (SAMHSA) Programs of Regional and National Significance (PRNS). The letter also calls for report language directing to reinstate training and technical assistance to grantees, which SAMHSA discontinued last year.

OPPOSE $1.5T PENTAGON PLUS-UP AT MARKUP: Sign-on opposing the Trump administration's astronomical $1.5 trillion Pentagon plus-up, which, in the president's own words, is coming at the expense of programs vital to our communities.

NAC ACTION ALERT: Asked network members to send an email to their MOCs urging them to vote NO on the budget reconciliation bill which omits critical guardrails to keep our communities safe and fails to lower costs or provide much needed support to people on the margins.

For example: At a moment when families across the country are struggling to afford housing, food and healthcare, and social safety net programs have been cut, Congress is now considering a reconciliation bill that gives Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) over $70 billion for immigration enforcement. This is on top of the $170 billion ICE and CBP received last year through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

OPPOSE ANTI-DEIA RIDERS IN FY27 APPROPRIATIONS: Over the last eighteen months, the current administration has abused its authority to try to prohibit and chill programs that advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). Many of these efforts have been stalled or halted due to the collective efforts of civil rights and nonprofit communities.

Unfortunately, as in years past, several House appropriations bills include riders prohibiting the use of funds for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility; critical race theory; or promoting divisive concepts. It is more important now than ever that we ensure Congress does not give its stamp of approval to the administrations divisive agenda.

CATHOLIC (PUBLIC) STATEMENT AGAINST DEATH PENALTY EXPANSION IN PALESTINE: NAC signed this statement expressing strong moral opposition to Israeli legislation calling for death penalty expansion, and urging immediate action to protect Palestinian life, uphold human dignity, and ensure respect for international law and accountability.

TRUMP THREAT TO END IRANS CIVILIZATION: NAC joined a public Amnesty International statement around President Trump's threats. Clearly citizens across the Middle East are paying the price for escalating violence following joint U.S. and Israeli attacked on Iran and retaliatory Iranian strikes across the regions. Inter- national humanitarian law is clear: Direct attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited.

ARMAS ACT (THE AMERICAS REGIONAL MONITORING OF ARMS SALES ACT) (H.R.6736 / S.3508): The letter urges an end illegal weapons trafficking to Haiti, Mexico, and all of Latin America and the Caribbean. The ARMAS Act, which would, among other measures:
Transfer small arms export authority back to the State Department from the Commerce Department;
Require the development of an interagency strategy to disrupt arms trafficking;
Improve tracing of captured arms to identify the source;
Increase congressional oversight

OPPOSE THE 2026 HUD MIXED STATUS NPRM (Notice of Proposal Making): The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on February 20, 2026, that-if finalized-would deny federally subsidized housing to tens of thousands of families that include a person who is undocumented. NAC signed this coalition-wide organizational sign-on comment that opposed the 2026 HUD Mixed Status NRPM.

FAITH LETTER URGING PASSAGE OF H.R. 1144 (FD TVPRA): NAC was a signer and among the writers of a faith organization sign-on letter urging passage of the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R. 1144) that went to Congress The letter followed a 4/23/26 Press Conference, organized by members of the House and survivors, and built on its energy. House members and staff members of the House Committees of Jurisdiction were urged to quickly take up and pass H.R. 1144.Senate members were urged to hotline the bill once it comes to their chamber, mirroring the message at the Press Conference.

NATIONAL RESOURCE CENTER ON DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE: NAC assisted in the writing of legislation that calls for the establishment of a national resource center on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in faith communities. NAC also endorsed the bill as the lead sponsors sought additional co-sponsors in the House. (H.R. 8813 (IH) - Supporting Survivors from Faith-based Communities Act).

CRIME VICTIMS FUND STABILIZATION ACT (CVFSA): The sign-on urges the Senate to honor Crime Victims Rights Week by acting to swiftly pass the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act (CVFSA), which the House passed by a unanimous voice vote in January. This critical, bipartisan legislation temporarily bolsters the Crime Victims Fund (CVF), which is the primary source of funding for victim services across the country, including services for victims of child abuse (including child sexual abuse), sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, human trafficking, stalking, elder abuse, drunk driving, community violence, and other crimes.

It also funds victim witness specialists in prosecutors' offices and law enforcement agencies, ensuring victims receive guidance through the justice process, assistance preparing impact statements, and support as they testify. This assistance not only increases conviction rates, but most importantly helps victims find their voice and begin the healing process

SUPPORT SURVIVORS NOW: RELEASE FEDERAL FUNDING: DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE (DOJ) DISCRETIONARY GRANTS: The DOJ has been sitting on Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) and Office of Justice Programs (OJP) discretionary grants for about seven months, the FY2026 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) have not come out (some of the FY2025 NOFOs are still coming out of Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), and most of the orgs who appealed the termination of their grants have yet to hear back. The sign-on is a petition to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) movement to highlight the need for these grants.

OPPOSE DEPORT ALIEN GANG MEMBERS ACT (H.R. 175): The letter expresses opposition to this bill that would give the government extremely wide latitude to designate individuals as "criminal gang" members. As written, H.R. 175 risks criminalizing religious communities' work to welcome newcomers and imposing harsh punishment on anyone who provides shelter, transportation, or support to undocumented immigrant neighbors.

STATE DEPARTMENT'S RESPONSE TO ZAMBIA LETTER: The sign-on letter urges Secretary Rubio to publicly clarify that the U.S. will not threaten HIV and other medical assistance to pressure Zambia into signing a critical minerals agreement. This request asks him to reject previous communication about a plan to withhold health funding to Zambia if it does not sign a critical-minerals agreement with the U.S.

MARKING WORLD HEALTH DAY - APRIL 7, 2026: NAC joined a global network statement urging the global community to Partner with Africa in a Just Engagement to End Vaccine Apartheid and Strengthen the Heath Sector. It is a call on Congress and the Trump Administration to address these issues by restoring global health funding in support of these issues that are essential not only for effective pandemic preparedness but for upholding justice and global stability.

ACADEMY OF BREASTFEEDING MEDICINE (ABM) STATEMENT ON FORCED SEPARATION OF BREASTFEEDING FAMILIES: NAC joined ABM in their concern about increasing reports of the forced separation of breastfeeding mothers and their babies during conflicts, civil unrest, and law enforcement actions around the world. The statement strongly condemns any separation of a breastfeeding mother-infant dyad. Such separation can cause immediate and lasting harm to both mother and baby.

US GOVERNMENT TO MAKE AVAILABLE ACCESS TO EBOLA THERAPEUTICS: The sign on letter urges the U.S. Government to coordinate with the World Health Organization, Africa CDC, affected-country governments, medical humanitarian organizations, and international and civil society actors to make doses of MBP134 and any other requested investigational therapeutics in its possession available for use in clinical trials and compassionate use programs for the Ebola Bundibugyo response. We also call on the U.S. Government to publicly commit to helping ensure that the people most affected by Ebola outbreaks have ongoing access to treatments post-trial and in the future, if treatments are approved. CHILDCARE FRAUD BILLS: Two letters were sent on this issue: One to the Senate and on to the House of Representatives. Early this year, the Trump Administration launched a politically motivated attack on the childcare system - relying on unsubstantiated claims of fraud to undermine childcare for millions of families. Now, Senate and House Republicans are continuing that agenda by proposing a set of supposedly "anti-fraud childcare bills. These bills will not in any way strengthen our childcare system or help the millions of families struggling to find and afford the childcare they need. Instead, these bills would further weaponize childcare funding and deny support to children and families.

Letter to the House urges House members to reject a set of bills that has advanced through the House Education and Workforce Committee from the dominant party.

Letter to the Senate urges Senate members to call on HELP Chair Cassidy to reverse course on a "discussion draft" bill he proposed on March 18.

OPPOSE NARRATIVE OF CHILD CARE FRAUD: The sign-on letter urges House members to reject a set of anti-fraud child care bills and instead focus on real solutions to address the child care crisis, including delivering the robust resources families and providers deserve.

CALL TO ACTION FOR A SHARED 0-25 STRATEGY FOR THRIVING: The public sign-on supports a call to action by Georgetown University to raise awareness that children and young people are growing up in a dramatically different environment than even a decade ago. Mental health challenges are rising, academic outcomes continue to decline, and social media and artificial intelligence are reshaping how young people learn, connect, and experience the world. This speaks to the need for a 0-25 Strategy for Thriving.

The goal is not to create a new framework, but to better align policy and funding around what young people need to thrive - to help bring professional communities of practice together around a more shared playbook.
