Urged President Biden to finalize the proposed rule that would give DACA recipients, as well as certain immigrants children, access to health coverage.

Urged the Biden Administration to rescind its waiver of 26 environmental and public health laws to rush border wall construction, and to pause all planning related to the project.

Urged Biden Administration to facilitate the reunification of immigrant families who have been trapped in extensive family visa backlogs for years by: 1) allowing the reclaiming of unused green cards; 2) providing parole for people in family-based green card backlogs; and 3) expanding family reunification parole programs.

Letter to President, Vice President, Homeland Security, Dept of Justice, Dept of State, White House Chief of Staff, NSA opposing immigration policy harms - particularly those impacting asylum seekers - that seem to be in jeopardy, using asylum seekers as pawns in exchange for the passage of basic funding legislation.

Urged the Biden administration and Congress to reject a legislative deal reportedly under consideration by the administration that would pair funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan with extreme and permanent restrictions on the U.S. asylum system.

Urged Schumer and McConnell to bring to a vote S396, the Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act. The legislation is designed to hold gang leaders and their supporters accountable through a variety of means, This is one thing the U.S. can do to address the violence in Haiti, a root cause of forced migration.

Advocacy work with the Alliance to End Human Trafficking focused on reducing the vulnerability of immigrants and migrants to human trafficking. Advocacy focus areas include:

● Inclusion of provisions in both the International Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2023 (S. 920) and the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act of 2023 (H.R. 5856) that address the root causes of forced migration. While all people enjoy the right to migrate in search of safety and security, they also have the right to remain in their home countries living with dignity. We will advocate for the inclusion of provisions that provide:

o U.S. aid for sustainable development and humanitarian assistance that provides support for food security, housing, employment, education and healthcare in local communities;

o Support for both internally displaced persons and refugees that enables them to avoid undertaking the treacherous journey to the United States; and

o Financial support to non-governmental organizations that seeks to enable people to remain in their home countries in safety and to broaden the network of care for those in dangerous circumstances.

● Rapid work authorizations for asylum seekers (H.R. 1325). The Asylum Seeker Work Authorization Act would direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to provide employment authorization for asylum applicants (provided they are not in detention and the application is not determined frivolous) 30 days after their filing of the asylum application. The inability to work leaves people vulnerable to exploitation. H.R. 1325 would enable asylum applicants to get to work and sustain themselves and their families; and

● Passage of the Immigration Court Efficiency and Childrens Court Act of 2023 (H.R. 6145 / S. 3178). This bill would assist and protect unaccompanied children, including those in need of protection from trafficking, as they navigate the complex U.S. immigration system.

Letter to Congress on the Child Tax Credit's proven, transformative impact on the lives of children and working families, and calling for its inclusion in any moving tax package. The letter insisted that Congress not provide any tax relief to corporations without expanding the Child Tax Credit and to support a larger, monthly, fully refundable Child Tax Credit. Concern was expressed for the 19 million children in low-income families who currently do not receive the full credit because their families do not earn enough money.

Urged Congress to prioritize expanding the Child Tax Credit (CTC), focusing on low-income children. We wanted to show support for prioritizing tax policies to reduce child poverty given the desire to pass a bipartisan tax agreement before the end of the year.

Urged the Senate to vote NO to Amendment Budd #1243 which seeks to prohibit the use of funds to implement or enforce Executive Order 14019 set forth in H.R.4366 - Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act 2024, which represents an attack on updates on access to voting.

Action alert to advocacy network urging members to reach out to Congressional representatives to ensure WIC is fully funded.

Letter to Congress urging passage of a bipartisan, bicameral Continuing Resolution to keep the government running and continue the funding of vital domestic human need programs.

Letter to Congress opposing the formation of a debt commission, which was promoted during the ongoing debate around government funding. The White House has accurately described such a commission as a "death panel" for Social Security.

Joined letter to Congress underscoring the importance of protecting IRS funding. A decade of deep budget cuts has left the IRS unable to provide the reliable and accessible customer service taxpayers deserve and to ensure wealthy taxpayers and corporations pay the taxes they legally owe. In 2021, 9 out of 10 taxpayer phone calls to the IRS went unanswered, leaving individuals and small business owners without the help they needed. The impact of the cuts continues to demonstrate the fact that the wealthier get richer while the poor get poorer.

Advocated to Congress for the highest possible budget allocation for housing and homeless assistance programs.

Urged Congress and the White House to reject all the proposals for the supplemental budget that would harm children.

Urged Congressional Leadership to reject substantial domestic appropriation cuts proposed by Speaker Johnson and extreme members of the House. Cuts would inflict severe damage to nutrition, housing, education, health care, child care, job training, and mental health and substance use treatment programs, and many others. Also urged them to oppose poison pill rider language that was proposed, and to support the Senate funding levels that Congress had already agreed to. These stances also could help stave a government shutdown.

Expressed strong support to Congress for bridge funding to bolster Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants. VOCA grants are the primary source of federal funding for victim services, including programs supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, human trafficking, elder abuse, community violence, homicide, and other crises.

NAC sent out an action alert to its advocacy network urging members to reach out to their senators to request an increase in investments in the protection of women and girls (action during the UN 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence).

Urged House and Senate Democrats to sign on to a letter to Congressional leadership requesting they continue the longstanding bipartisan tradition of fully funding the WIC program.

Urged House to support the early Childhood Nutrition Improvement Act that would: Add another meal service to be reimbursed in Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP); Change the payment policy so that family child care programs in CACFP are reimbursed based on "food away from home," the way child care centers' rates are calculated; Reduce paperwork by simplifying eligibility reporting for for-profit child care centers; Call on the secretary of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to review the CACFP serious deficiency process; Establish an advisory committee on CACFP paperwork.

Urged the Senate to support the Child Care Nutrition Act that would: Provide a 10-cent increase for all eligible meals and snacks in all (Child and Adult Care Food Program) CACFP-participating Head Start, child care centers, and family child care programs; Eliminate the harmful two-tier system for family child care in CACFP; Allow family child care providers in CACFP to be reimbursed for meals provided to their own children regardless of their income level; Make the CACFP payment rate-setting fairer by calculating family child care payments the same as child care center payments, as "food away from home."

Urged House and Senate to champion diplomacy and peacebuilding in efforts to generate a Just Peace in the Ukraine.

Urged President Bident to insist on strong labor and environmental standards in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), the presidents massive economic plan with 14 countries in the Indo-Pacific region to coordinate trade and supply chains, in an effort to lessen the countries dependence on China for critical products and allow them to better weather crises like wars, pandemics and climate.

Urged President Biden to 1) Publicly call for a de-escalation in Israel/Palestine, a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, and restraint by all sides; 2) Call on all parties to prioritize the establishment of corridors for humanitarian aid to reach the people in Gaza currently in desperate need of food, water, shelter, medical care, and electricity; and 3) Prioritize steps to secure the immediate release of all hostages and ensure international protection for civilians.

Urged President Biden to remove extreme corporate rights from existing U.S. trade and investment agreements. The Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) system included in various free trade agreements and investment treaties has created a global governance regime that prioritizes corporate rights over those of governments, people, and the planet. ISDS empowers multinational corporations to sue governments in shady unaccountable tribunals over public interest laws that affect their profits and seek unlimited taxpayer money in compensation.

Letter to President Biden expressing concern about a U.S.- Indonesian critical minerals agreement without any environmental or social safeguards as it would be a green light to continue business as usual for an industry that is destroying forests, violating the rights of indigenous and local communities and poisoning communities.

Supported a Senate resolution authored by Sherrod Brown (D-OH) that declared racism as a public health crisis, and acknowledged that health care disparities have existed in America for centuries and now are being magnified and exacerbated.

Letter to Congress opposing a Congressional Review Act (CRA) challenge to a recently published National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Joint Employer rule. Labor-intensive and underpaid industries like retail, hospitality, fast food, janitorial, construction, and delivery, millions of workers hired through intermediary subcontractors like staffing agencies and specialized contract firms would be effectively deprived of their labor rights because the law fails to recognize who their employers are. The new rule reaffirms that a worker may be jointly employed and recognizes that employers who violate the labor rights through deceptive subcontracting schemes can no longer evade their responsibilities to their workers under the NLRA. Industry trade groups and large corporations were lobbying Congress to support a CRA challenge to overturn this critical rule. The letter urged Members of Congress to oppose a CRA in order to safeguard jointly employed workers rights to negotiate for better working conditions, higher pay, and benefits under this rule.

Urged House and Senate to support the Executive Branch Accountability and Transparency Act (H.R. 3642, S. 2270). It would create a centralized database for all public ethics records filed by non-career executive branch officials.

Advocacy to IRS about Racial Disparities: Acknowledged agency efforts to date to address revelations from ae Stanford study that Black taxpayers are audited at 3 to 5 times the rate of non-Black taxpayers. Indicated that more needs to be done to ensure that racial disparities are fully redressed and do not occur in the future. In particular, the agency should commit to regularly reporting on disparities moving forward, and to further disaggregating data by race/ethnicity, to ensure we have the information necessary to address any problematic practices as they arise. For more information about this problem and proposed solutions, see CSSPs recent blog post and the recommendations from the Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity released earlier this year. The Letter was addressed to the IRS Commissioner asking him to address issues caused by racial disparities in audits.

Expressed support for the EEOCs pay data collection process and urged its swift reinstatement in light of equal rights for all.

Advocated against the Census Bureau's devastating proposal that would cut the official rate of disability in the American Community Survey (ACS) by 40 percent, erasing nearly 10 million disabled women and girls from an already-undercounted population.

Advocated in support of the Department of Health and Human Services notice of proposed rulemaking entitled Strengthening Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) as a Safety Net and Work Program. This proposed rule would make positive steps in the TANF program by enforcing rules to focus TANF spending on areas reasonably related to program purposes and towards families with lower incomes, and by eliminating the third-party maintenance of effort (MOE) spending option.
